72 442 engine question

Hi, I have a 72, 442 with a 455 not orig motor, it has a aluminum intake that says Oldsmobile W-455 on it can not find a part number, anyhow it has a Holley 650 elcctric choke on it and I would like to put on the original Rochester did the Rochester have a elect choke? Is this a good intake for the 455? Thanks Phil

Hi Phil
Please post a photo. The W-455 intake was a W30 intake. I've been told it flowed no better than the cast iron ones, but is lighter weight. And most importantly was only installed on W30 cars. if it's original it's worth much more than a normal cast iron intake. It should have hot air tubes on the passengerside of the carb for the Quadrajet choke. John

Just for fun... what's the casting letter on the heads, the big letter near the #1 and #8 sparkplugs?

There should be a casting number on the exhaust crossover, just to the passenger side of the carb. In this photo, the number is just above the carb flange and just below the opening for the choke stove.

The stock Qjet used a hot air, integral coil choke assembly. You can replace the hot air coil with an electrically heated coil if you wish to convert it to an electric choke.
