70 mild 455 build

Looking for recommendations for my engine build for my 70 cutlass supreme Conv. What I have is a 70 block/crank/rods from a 98. HEI ignition, I have the original Q jet or a 750 edelbrock carb available. Reworked big valve C heads milled .020 to make up for gasket thickness. currently has a TH350 with 2.56 gears, would like to go to a 200r4 with 3.42's some day. My question is cam/intake/piston recommendations. I'm leaning towards a JM-20-22 .496/.512, 226/230@.050, 110 lobe. Also thinking about the original police cam. For intakes its either the original or an edelbrock performer. Pistons I'm looking at Speed pro 2323's, are the IC886's worth double the money? I'm open to any suggestions you guys have. Thanks for the help.

Did you do a search?
If so you would find many posts on the exact same thing. Here's what was recommnded by most;

Performer intake
Icon IC886's (yes they're worth more than the 2323's)
Chuck the stock rods for any performance build
Spend the necessary money on good quality machine work.
Cam is open for interpretation. Depends on your ultimate goals. I'd seriously consider a roller if your budget allows.

Jmo. best of luck in your project!!

I've been looking through the forum for a few months and narrowed it down. I knew the Icon's were better, just wasn't sure if I could justify the extra cost. As far as the rods what's a performance build? I'm hoping for 400hp/ 500 tq. Cams I'm looking for something with a decent idle that works with my higher gears. I don't know if I can justify a roller set up for the performance I'm looking for.

A rollers' advantages are more than performance, they're maintenance related as well.
Eagle makes a great rod for the 455. By the time you R&R the old pistons, recon the rods etc you'll be more than halfway towards a set of Eagles. And they're lighter to boot.

I did a recent .040 over 455 build with out of the box Procomps and a mild hyd roller. It made 443hp/508 tq.
Maybe something to consider.

Thanks
