Smile 69 442

Ok I have to ask this cause I want to make sure I knew the answer but here goes.

over the last few weeks i have seen multiple people listing parts and or parts cars labeling them as 1969 442 with original 455 engine. Ive only been into Oldsmobiles for one year so im a newbie, but this has to be wrong, correct ? only the H/O would of been the only A body for oldsmobile with a 455 correct ? Could they be mistaken the 400 in the 442 model ? I understand the 70 could of had a 455 .

The 455 BB was available from '68 until '76, but the '69 442 had a 400. I believe you're correct that '70's could have 455's. You can get more info here, http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/oldsfaq.h...0of%20Contents But beware! it is the internet!

455 wasn't available until 1970 in the 442 and '70 and '71 442s were the only years that the 455 was standard and the ONLY available engine.

There's lots of bad info in ads, as most sellers don't have a clue. The good news is that for the 1968-up model years, the block has a VIN derivative stamp, so it's very easy to tell if a block is original to the car or not. As noted, the 455 was NOT factory installed in a 1969 442, just the H/O (though 69 H/Os were really 442s and had a 34487... VIN).
