68/69 model 455-out of what car?

I inherited a 455 engine from a friend who got it from another guy that told him it was a 68/69 Olds 455 out of a Hurst Olds.

Is there any way to determine this?

Yes,

C heads came on 69 442 w/ 400 cubic inch motor. The D heads came on the 442 400 cubic inch W-30 cars and the 69 H/O with 455 cubic inch motor.

C heads did come on the 68 H/O with AC. I think they were on the big cars in 68 and 69 as well.

I would imagine if you had the numbers off the vin pad on the block someone could check them against the 68 or 69 H/O registry. I'm thinking it would be a long shot though. You might make someone pretty happy if you had their matching numbers engine though

Post the partial VIN number stamped below the driver's side head, behind where the power steering pump would mount.

38M614186 = 3-Olds 8-1968 M-Lansing 6-Toronado 14,186-unit# (late Feb. '68 production)

38M144104

3-Oldsmobile 8-1968 M-Lansing 1-passenger car (non-Toronado) 44104-unit#

Too early for a '68 H/O.

look for a series of numbers(about 3/8" high), stamped on the oil fill tube, towards the top. the first #(i think there is eight altogether), indicates engine build year. it should read 8 or 9 XXXX and so on. may or may not help you if the tubes been replaced. sometimes you have to clean-off the tube and the #'s may be facing towards the intake mainifold.
