67 Quadrajet Leaking (425)

Hi Everyone

I noticed today that the plug just to the right of the fuel filter (looks like a plastic insert) is leaking pretty good. I need to seal that sucker up, and I was wondering if there is an epoxy I should use, or some sort of threaded plug, etc?

Thanks
Dave

side inlet '67 carb?

You might want to get another candidate, if that plug goes, there will be a major fuel spill and probably a fire to follow.

The only thing I would trust to fix that would be a screwed in plug.

Photos?

PS I can get you a carb, the rebuilts run $300 delivered in the USA

I can't picture what you mean.

A photograph would be very helpful.

Thanks for the replies.

OK, hopefully the upload worked.

The area in question is just to the right of the fuel line. It looks like it was JB welded. I have had the car since 2003, and I put about 2000 miles a year on it, and it didn't leak before now, so it seems to have held OK. I was wondering if I should just clean it off and re-JB weld it.

To Octania, I have been interested in a new carb for the car for some time. I don't know where this one came from, but when I looked up the number it was not for a 67 98. So if you have the right one (or something close) I would be interested in hearing more.

Thanks

This plug is not uncommon to leak. I have been rebuilding Quadrajets since 1970 and have never seen one come out. The correct repair, which should be done at every rebuild, is to clean off the plug's surface, rough it up a little with emery cloth or scotch brite, and then JB Weld it. It should hold for years to come.

Well, your carb looks like it might spill fuel, it's upside down.

You can text or call 517.442.0432 or e-mail to rocketscience442@hotmail.com, with year, model, carb number needed if known. It will take me 2-3 weeks to schedule a trip to see if your carb is there and what condition it is in.

Hey- I was just satisfied that I got the picture to post.

I will send you the information. In the meantime, thanks to 67442HT, I re-JB Welded it and it seems fine now.
