Hello. I know that the connecting rods on my 394 engine have "spit holes" to help lubricate the adjacent cylinder. Are these a necessity? Many new manufacturers make connecting rod bearings without these holes. Almost all including Sealed Power, Mahle Clevite and Egge do not make bearings with the spit function. My sealed power ones do not have it.
If you feel like you want the spit function you can add it. Just clamp the bearing in the rod as it would run and drill out the bearing's spit hole with an appropriately sized drill through the spit hole in the rod..

If you did that you would be drilling a hole through the rod bolt
