455 won't go into a hi rev
Hey i am new to this forum but i have been an olds fan 4 a long time. I have a ? . When i am in my car and i punch it it sounds like there is a rev limiter on it and i did a full tune up. I am not sure where to hook up the vacume advance, manifold or carb. The motor has a egr valve and is all stock. Just need some advice. thanks mike

It could be a number of things..........
1) A fuel supply problem
2) Is it a HEI dist or points??
3) wrong plugs
4) bad plug wires
5) bad coil
6) bad electrical connection to dist.
7) bad cap and rotor
8) EGR valve
You will just have to go everything and elimanate one at a time......

thanks 4 the fast reply
ok it has new plugs wires cap rotor. I talked to a freind today and he said it,s a fuel prob. It has brand new lines. I have never had a mech. fuel pump go bad before (unless it leaked). how would i check the fuel pump

When you say it has new lines, you mean you put new lines from the frt. to the back.....
Maybe a line is lose and may be sucking air.
I would install a fuel pressure guage in the line between pump and the carb and see what you come up with.

If you have a timing light use it to verify that your vacuum advance it actualy advancing the timing when you punch it. If not, you have the vacuum hooked up to the wrong source. I always thought vacuum was connected to the carburetor baseplate, when you step on it the vacuum increases there because of increased air velocity and that vacuum increase caused the dashpot to move the baseplate that the points were mounted on increasing the timing proportionally but apparently that is not always the case. Someone told me that sometimes vacuum advance is attached to manifold vacuum. I dunno anymore.....
