455 won't crank

After weeks of issues with converting from points to hei I finally got my 455 running smooth again. She has been running great for the last week or so. The other day she all of sudden quiet on me sitting in the driveway and I had to put my charger on it and she fired right up. At the time I really didn't think much of it until now. Got up this morning and she will not crank. It just turns over and over but will not run. I was thinking the battery has a dead cell but I am really not sure. I tried to crank it with some starter fluid as well and no luck. My question is if the battery is to weak to turn the starter will I have fire at the plug wires. I hooked a old plug up the day it suddenly quiet on me in the drive way and I had no spark but as soon as I plug the jumper up it fired right up. Help me understand the relationship in the starter and battery and hei. The starter is turning over but engine will not run. I am not sure if the battery is too weak, but on the other hand I have a full size charger hooked up while trying to get it to run. HeLP

So it cranks but will not fire? With starting fluid and no fire, leads me to believe you have no sprak! Have you checked for spark?

Do you have full 12V hooked up to your HEI?

So why were you converting again? So it would run better?

Why did you have to put the charger on it? Was the battery dead?

Make up your mind.

Either it wouldn't crank or it turned over and over.
There can be only one.

Once you can tell us this, we can begin to understand what's wrong.

Why?

So it was turning over?

Possibly.

But IS the battery too weak to turn the motor over? We're still not clear on that one.

Again, this is meaningless unless we know whether it was turning over or dead.

Battery provides energy to turn the starter and creates the spark until the engine is running, at which point the alternator is able to make enough current that the battery charges instead of discharging.

And I was taught to say "Please."

It sounds like you are saying that engine is turning but won't start, which contradicts some of what you said earlier in your post.
We need clarity on this.

If the starter is turning the engine, then obviously the battery is not too weak.
If the starter is not turning the engine around, or is turning it very slowly, then your battery may be discharged (among a host of other possible problems).

By the way, my vote is for a bad HEI module.
