455 water pump

Have to replace my pump, 455, non- AC, engine code T, it is the 5.57 length, any recommendations on best one out there, have seen some with HD cooling non AC?
or is all that matters is the length? Stock engine, PO did say he had some over heating issues, so probably due. TIA

Just got it off, pita! Car is a D88 ragtop, (455) no AC, FYI, casting is a 404847, 5.57" long, has the cast disc impeller., date code of 99, Probably the second/third pump, sillycone all around, I will take with when I go shopping for new one.

That is a desirable casting number. Don't turn it in as a core.

Have that correct pump rebuilt, you will benefit from knowing it is the design that matches original performance parameters.

Is that the correct pump? will rebuild it at some point, upon removal found that it spun freely and blades were intact just a decent gap between blades and housing, 3/16, is there a spec for that? for now just want to get it on the road so planning to get a new pump, hence the request for advice on a purchase. Are there pump rebuild kits available?
thanks

What led you to replace the pump?

Long story, see my other posts on the car, but PO drove the car very few miles in the last 15-20 years, mainly due to gas tank rotting out on the sides along with rusty fuel lines, so I'm just getting it back in shape, fixed tank and lines, some floor rot repaired, new brake lines, ect, ect. Pulled the rad to clean and hose it off put it back in and filled with 2-3 gal of water and started it up came up to temp quick, 2-3 min. then belched out water thru cap after thermo (new) opened, so added more water and repeated, same thing, let it cool and a third try, added water got hot quick again, checked heater hose(new) and they were still cold, assumed no circulation at that point so figured pump was bad, corroded impellers, ect. so I figured for 50 $ I would put a new pump in, hindsight I should have hooked a hose up to a T in heater hose and filled that way, possibly purge any air out, thinking an air lock/bubble. So went to napa and looked at a pump they had in stock, unfortunately it was the long pump, FYI, NAPA PN, TFW-43100, so ordered the other one (TFW 43107) as they only show 2 for the car, and no good description (length) other then number of outlets! Quite possible there is another problem but have idled the engine for some time on a regular basis as I have been working on it, but cannot drive it due to gas tank problem, this all has come about after the rad. R&R so possible that is some of the problem, but pump is out now to going down that road now.
