455 Plans.

Hey all,

Let me start by saying I'm stoked to be getting going on this Olds motor. Yes, it's going into a Chevy car, but it's better than the other way around, eh?

It's a '67 Chevy II, two door post. It'll have truck trailing arms, stock front clip thats set up for a BBC...etc etc.

So, since the car will probably weigh around the 2800 lb mark, and be somewhere between a street terror and daily driver, I'm shooting for a little hotter than stock rebuild on this 455 out of a '71-ish Delta 88.

I'm figuring on low compression pistons, for 87 octane sake, with a bit of cam. Intake, headers...otherwise, just a fairly standard rebuild.

So, here comes my questions:

-Will the 8.5-8.75 comp ratio be a total dog?

-How much lift and duration is too much?

-Are oil restrictors and the associated parts necessary if I don't plan to rev over 5-6 k? And only short bursts at that? Like, winding up 1st and 2nd gear?

I've never really messed with Olds motors. But, I have one, and it's big. So I'm going to play with it. As long as I can get it to hook up and not break anything in the drivetrain, I think I should be able to walk a few newer Mustangs running around town...

Thanks in advance all!

-Sam.

Around these parts 67 Chevy II's are hard to find. Put a Chevy motor in it.

If you're not racing this car then I wouldn't put oil restrictors in it. There are many Olds 455's in the world running just fine without them

Just out of curiousity have you checked for pan clearance, and will that steering gear gear even the stock exh manifolds?

You are probably releasing and avalanche of modification issues when you wander that far from stock. BBC should be a lot easier .

I've had and worked on both - Chevy II and Olds - Sell or trade for a Chevy motor, BB or SB and save yoursef a ton of grief!
You'll find NOTHING to make this swap, and everything will have to be hand-built!!
You'd have to be an expert weder to fab the motor mounts, oil pan, and headers, just to name some of the problems!
What you may save in money because you already have the motor, will cost much more in fabrication and grief!
