455 into a 64 Vista.

Been working on this car for a number of years as a hobby. Decided to
put a 455 in it. Why not.
Motor not in it yet. Stock hood. Just a fun driver. Question is, what kind of underhood clearance will I have with an Edelbrock Performer? Need air cleaner ideas besides cheesecloth on top of the carb.
Thanks, Ron

With a performer it should fit nicely. If you use a Rochester or a Holley you can use this drop base air cleaner. Its the lowest I've found and very nice piece.

Be sure to use the small block mounts. The part number is #2261. Leave the same frame brkts, and will drop in perfect.

If you use a T350 Trans should bolt up to the Trans cross member in stock location. Should be able to use stock drive shaft. If you go to T400 will have to move Trans cross member back and redrill frame to bolt in. And of course a new drive shaft with a T400 yoke.

Right now car has an Olds 350/TH350 in it. The TH350 is slightly beefed up.It was behind a built up Olds 350 from the previous owner. For now I am going to use it. Not going to go nuts with the 455 rebuild. The 455 core motor I bought did come with a TH400, so the tranny swap may be in the future.
Thanks for all the great info Gene.

I used a 69 Corvette LT1 drop base on this build, pictured is a 67 400E with a Qjet and performer. Used the 330 mounts no problems with hood clearance is the 64 F-85.
