455 engine water pump

I am curious if anyone has ever seen this water pump set up before?
It looks like some kind of PTO unit at the back of the engine.the head stamping looks like a K is that possible

Its an industrial engine, probably ran very low RPMs but for long hours at a time.

I'm guessing 1973 Marine or Irrigation

Interesting pieces, from the extra water pump to the motor mounts.

Probably fitted with MY flywheel, maybe more goodies.

I believe they were marketed under the name "Red Jacket" irrigration Pumps.
Used to run irrigation pumps for long periods of time.
I believe also they were 460cid engines.
Maybe others have better info, but this is my belief.

You believe incorrectly. Olds never sold a 460 engine. Also, why would an irrigation engine have a power steering pump? More likely this is a marine engine. Olds sold lots of marine motors in the 1970s, which was the primary use for K and KA heads, as seen on this motor.

I wonder if that is a dual fuel propane or LPG setup?

Boat motor. Those exhaust manifolds are water cooled by the pump, it looks to be a closed system, that tank on the back would be the radiator. Opposed to sucking fresh water in from outside the boat. So the water jackets shouldn't be bad at all. Looks to have had a through hull exhaust to. This motor probably lived a high RPM life is some speed boat.

It may also run backwards depending if it was a twin setup.

K and KA heads were the best available BBO heads in the mid-1970s. Some were big valve. These were the service replacements for earlier performance heads - not necessarily as good as Ds or Fs, but pretty close. The reality is that with the exception of the Js, all BBO heads in stock form flow within a few percent of each other.

Some boat motors also come with bigger cams then the stock auto engines did because these were designed to run at WOT more then Idle. Mercrusier (chevy) ID the engine's by a horsepower rating opposed to displacement. So a Merc 260 is really just a 350 Small block rated to 260 HP. Most others did also, the plate is normally found on the carb. You may be able to find what the factory rated the HP for that specific motor then somewhere on it.
