455 air conditioning install
Hi fellows
thinking of putting in air conditioning on my 79 cutlass slowly
the alternator is mounted on the passenger side.
dis the air conditioning compressor get mounted on the drivers side on these ?
I see a lot of pictures with the compressor mounted on the passenger side
anyways. Anyone have any tips for what brackets I need to start the little project

The factory only mounted the A/C compressor on the passenger side. The alternator was moved to the driver's side on A/C cars. Obviously brackets, pulleys, and belts are different. Some aftermarket A/C kits leave the alternator on the passenger side and put the compressor on the driver's side. This results in very long A/C hoses running across the engine compartment.
Is this a non A/C car? Or are you doing an aftermarket a/c system? Using a R4 compressor on a 455 requires minor fabrication.
Move the alternator to the drivers side, use the correct A/C compressor brackets.
A/C compressor and alternator brackets are easy to find.

the car had a resto mod so everything was removed including duct work inside
If the firewall has been smoothed, and all the interior parts are missing, then a aftermarket system would be far easier. Unless you had a parts car available I’m guessing getting all the little parts and pieces would be extremely frustrating.
I’m hoping if I can get the air conditioning in and it blows out the main duct should cool down the car somewhat
