455

Just got a 455 engine and got these numbers off of it. Any info would be greatly apreciated. Thanks! The cylinder heads are E heads, how do they compare to other Oldsmobile cylinder heads? Would I be better off with Edelbrock heads? The engine is a F block with # 396021. The intake manifold has the # 398662 and d1s was on it as well. Should I try to find a rebuildable Rochester carb? or what would I need to put on a 600 Edelbrock?I may put this intake on my 68 442 convertible. Not in a rush to rebuild the 455 Im gonna take my time and slowly aquire the desired parts crank, conn rods, pistons etc. This 455 would eventualy go into my 68 442 convertible and I would like a pump gas friendly 400-450 horse power.

You'd be hard pressed to make 400 hp with anybodys' 600 cfm carb.

The E heads are 1970 Olds heads. Can be either large of small valve. If the engine came out of a Toro they would be large valve. Any other car and they could be big or small. But they are good heads. You need 750 or better cfm for your carb. A Edelbrock performer intake manifold would be a good choice.
You need to package everything together, cam, lifters, head work, compression, etc to reach your goals and run on pump gas.

As mentioned the E heads are fine for the street. 450 hp on pump gas with iron heads will need a very well matched set of parts. No speed pro pistons, medium riser dual or similar single plane intake, correct cam for compression, definite valve and port work on the heads and a very well flowing exhaust. Or dump the iron and go edelbrock heads, bump up the compression and cam accordingly and there you go.
