442 vs. Cutlass Fuel Line

What's the reason for the additional fuel filter on a 442 fuel line, vs. the straight fuel line on a regular Cutlass? This is the same line running from the fuel pump to the carb ('70 - '72). Was it to prevent fuel starvation at the carb on the 442? (and perhaps were driven more aggressively?)

Huh? More filtration would add to starvation by introducing a point of resistance into the fuel flow. I don't believe I have ever seen an extra stock filter on a 442 between the pump and carb.

Fusicks sells 2 different fuel lines for the 455, 4bbl cars. One is stock steel tubing with flare nuts on both ends. The second adds a small in line canister fuel filter. I've read some posts that discuss fuel starvation, and thought this would keep a little extra fuel closer to the carb. The second fuel line is specific to the 442, and I'm curious why the factory would do that.

News to me. I'll have to check my FSM to try and confirm that.

I don't see the set-up you're describing in the last Fusick catalog I downloaded (Sept 2010). Where do you see it?

You might be describing the set-up for the 1971 (and maybe '72?) W-30. For whatever reason they put a large fuel filter between pump and carb. I assume that with this set-up they did not install the smaller fuel filter inside the carb's fuel inlet.

Sorry, it was The Parts Place where I found them.

2 Piece Fuel Line: FT2673T
In Line Fuel Filter: FT3107Z (AC# GF 432)

Apparently for the 71 - 72 W-30 cars, and still wondering why there were both filters?

Some higher horse power guys will remove the sock from the sending unit and throw a high flow filter between the tank & pump, rather than the sock. So maybe olds was being innovative back then for the higher horse power cars. It actually creates LESS resistance compared to having the sock.

About to revamp my fuel system, and I found this thread in a search, so i thought I would share what I learned along the way!!

Correct, the external fuel filter is W-30 only, but I'm pretty sure it's 1971-72.
