So I picked up a couple of big blocks, one is a 73 455 with J heads, ive got some other heads to put on it. The other is a 425, 389244D but in its life it seems to have been red/orange and yellow, and currently have originally blue valve covers (obviously an easy change by previous owner) I have read the toro's have a lower intake at the carb mount and I am trying to find if it is a toro without taking the heads off, I may have to anyway later on as it is a bit stuck, heads are C heads. And as for the oil pan, I am not familiar with this shape, ive never owned a big block olds
And, C heads indicate 1967. IIRC, Toro valve cover vents are offset and others have centered vent holes (D shaped). Toro blue was an unusual blue metallic. You can find oil pan photos by doing a search. There are two BBO pans, RWD and Toro, from the era. Toro has a big "notch" for the driveshaft to pass under it, and the rectangular sump goes front to back, offset to one side to make room for the transaxle. RWD pans have a side to side sump at the very rear.
I see that the E intake has been off [incorrect hardware store washers], so that might have been a 2-bbl motor originally. Look for the drill spot on the rib to EASILY spot a Toro 425 block.
The stamped-in 1/4 tall characters on the flat spot on the front of the RH head will also tell the [heads'] original application. Motor application if heads are on the original motor.
