4 Port Mechanical Fuel pump

Hi, I have a 67 442 with a 69 455 engine. I ordered a replacement fuel pump. I believe it is a Carter. I received it today and it has 4 ports, 2 input, 1 output and 1 that states nothing. I do not have a return line and I suspect the "nothing port" is for a return line. Can I just cap this line? Do I cap one of the input lines also? The installed fuel pump has only 2 lines. The New pump is a high performance pump @ 8.0 pressure. Suggestions???

Sounds like you got a pump for a car with A/C. A non A/C pump should have 1 inlet and 1 outlet.

I've never seen a four port pump for an Olds. Please post a photo. I'm guessing that the fourth "port" is just a vent hole. If so, use the inlet and outlet and plug the return line.

Joe, as I inspect the pump further I found it has 2 outlet ports (each with a different thread size), 1 inlet port and 1 blank port. The one inlet port, 1 outlet port and the blank port have the same thread size. The other outlet port the thread size is slightly smaller. Here are the pictures:

The small outlet port is the return, just plug it. All chrome aftermarket pumps have the return provision. Can you post a photo of the fourth port? Does it actually connect to anything internally? In any event, I suspect you can just plug it also.

You said it was a Carter pump but it looks like a Holley/Mr Gasket high volume pump. I have never seen a Carter like that.

FYI, the Holley/Mr Gasket pumps are notorious for cracking through the pump pivot pin, so keep an eye on it. Mine worked fine for 5 years or so then cracked. I'll post pics when I get off this pad and onto a real computer..

My memory was wrong - it cracked across the mounting arm, not through the pivot pin. I guess I remembered the pin since I had issues with it backing out and I had to stake it to keep it in place.
