394 rocker pedestal bolts

Hi everybody

Why is it important to use thread sealant on the bolts for the rocker pedestals ?

I am asking because it looks like the bolt holes does not interfere with either water or oil galeries.

The sealer is applied to the head bolts. Four of the eight rocker stand bolts (the ones closest to the intake manifold) are also head bolts. The other four are not and do not need sealer.

Hi again

Since I have minor work on the Oldsmobile again I come this topic again, and simply dont get it, but I am sure there is a good reason 😉.

I did try to have a look at the workshop manual, but are still not sure.

It does not look like the head bolt threads are passing through a water jacket, this make me ask ....Why do these head bolt need thread sealant ?

I apologize for what might be a stupid question.
