394 rebuild help

I am embarking on the big one and I’m looking to my Olds buddies for some help. Even though I was an airplane mechanic in the Army and have rebuilt a few CJ-2a jeeps, I never tackled a motor rebuild.

1) Does anyone have/know of the best book or web location on rebuilding my 1964 olds 394?
2) Has anyone successfully switched away from the Slim Jim tyranny?
3) Is there any sheet metal out there, fenders, bumpers ect,,,?
4) Has anyone upgraded to 4 wheel disk on the 64’s?

I have the 1964 Dynamic 88 ragtop with the 394 & the slim Jim

Thanks
Jody

Jody,
Give the post a minute to sit and attract some replies. There are guys on here who will beable to answer your question(s). I can't. But, EVERY question I've asked on here has been answered to the fullest, coming from someone who wants a question answered thoroughly and exactly. And, do a search on your topic and post the question in all the apprepriate forums, ie; big blocks, Big Olds: 88,98, etc., and so on. Good Luck.

I have done a little wrenching on the 394. Pretty basic as far as engines go. An old Chiltons or Motors Manual will have the specs for clearances and the machine shop should have these as well. Gasket kits and engine parts are available. You could get a factory shop manual too and it should tell you anything you need to know about the 394.
