394 oil pan seal

Hello. I am now putting the pan back on my 394 but it's a little confusing with the cork gaskets. Like is the cork supposed to be upright or horizontal? If someone can exsplan in better detail or send me some pictures it would be much appreciated!

I always have the printed side up. I have no idea if that is correct or if it make any difference at all.. I know back in the day some gasket sets weren't marked on any side.... Tedd

Are you talking about the small square cork pieces that come with the pan gasket ?
If so , they go on either side of the rear main bearing cap .

What are you using for a rear main seal ?
They make a neophrene seal to replace the " rope " seal . Much easier to install and more reliable .
Best gasket makes one , part # 3A45 .

Yes! I'm using that exact seal! The cork placement is a little confusing.
