1970 455 Block

I have the opportunity to buy a 1970 block complete with exhaust manifolds.( 455 ) The seller says it has "G" heads. Are G heads correct for a 70 442? What would be a fair offering price? Thanks in advance for your replies.

A '70 442 would have "E" heads.

Yes, the 1971 is G, the 1972 also has a small A at the lower right hand corner of the large G.

Where are you located? I just looked at a 455 listed on Craigslist in Grants Pass Oregon (Medford/Ashland Craigslist). They advertized it as a 1970 but it's a 71. They also have a 1973 block, crank, heads plus some other parts. John

This should be moved to the "engine" segment, more specificly under big blocks, i bet you would get more detailed info there

HI ya 69 442 hey i saw the same ad as i live in wa. as well. He gave me the same info but i couldn't get any more info as far as mileage, if it smoke or if its a drop in & go engine. He wants $500.00 for it but i don't know if its worth it after the sale if you drop it in & it smokes or just knocks......kinda like Russian roulette. I did read somewhere though that "G" heads did come on 1970 442's & they are big valve heads. I'll have to look that up again if you want the info. I'm up north from you & its good to hear a local with a 69 442 also....but mines a sport coupe. Good day!

70 heads would be C or rare F (I think), G is 71 Ga is 72. All heads flow very similar to each other, nothing that would matter unless youre a serious racer looking for every little bit of power. Personally I like the G and Ga since they have hardened valve seats and deeper spring seats from valve rotators, lets you run higher lift cams than the other heads, and the flow is so slightly different you would never feel the difference. I say $500 is steep for a G head longblock, id give $300 max if it was in awesome shape, I bought my Ga longblock for $100. Try to get more numbers out of the seller, look for block numbers, that will tell you if its a 70 block with 71 G heads. I wouldn't be surprised if heads got swapped once before or if it was a very late production 70 motor that got the new G heads. Also if it has the crank with it check to see if it is drilled for a manual trans, most olds cranks aren't compatible with a manual trans from the factory so if it is its more sought after. I have pics from today of the two different crank ends but im sure someone has already posted pics somewhere on the site before haha

70 heads would be C
As stated previously, E heads are correct for 1970, F for '70 W30. C heads are 67-69 400, and '68 H/O 455 w/ac.
