1968 AOI with a Eldebrock Performer Intake and Holley 750 Double Pumper Will it Work?
Wondering about how to build my 455 and keep the 1968 style AOI Air cleaner and scoops. If I change the intake to an Eldebrock Performer and say a Holley double Pumper carb will it work/fit with 1968 AOI setup. It’s a 1968 car as well. Does anyone run anything like this? Thanks Tim

A Performer 455 intake mounts the carb 1.65" higher than a stock 455 intake.
Your air cleaner not have that much extra clearance to the hood. Remember you will need a bit of extra clearance to give room for engine rocking with acceleration (and deceleration if you have 4-speed).
Put modelling clay on your air cleaner, close the hood, and rev the engine to see how much existing clearance you actually have.

I have a Performer intake and 750 Holley Street Demon carb on my '69 (400G) and installed a reproduction OAI set-up complete with the air cleaner and hoses. No problems whatsoever. I've read on this forum that the Torker and air gap intakes are taller than stock. I do believe the Performer is a little taller but many people have installed these under the factory hoods.

I have had a performer, and currently run a Torker on my 69 with the OAI. It does fit, but it’s close to the hood. I run solid engine mounts, so no engine movement problems. Hope that helps.

The following is from the Edelbrock website:
Installation Notes
- For correct gasket kit when using # 2151 in a marine/competition application, contact Mondello Performance at (805) 237-8808.
- Manifold height: A-4.40", B-5.50"
- Carb pad height: 4.95"
Check your existing clearances. It's easy to do.
