1967 Toro 425 Distributor Gear Issue

I put a rebuilt 1967 Toro 425 in my 1964 Olds Cutlass. Bought a new Petronix HEI distributor (bought from Summit) to use--was not inexpensive. I just took the motor out to swap in a 455 ;was planning to use the 425 in a 1953 88 hardtop project. When I took out the distributor out I noticed that the drive gear on the HEI is noticeably shaved on one side of the teeth. I have never seen this before ;any ideas on what would cause this ?.Two concerns: (1) Wondering whether to try to replace the drive gear on the HEI to re-use in the 455 or try to return with Summit or Petronix.(2) As to the 425, I do not see any metal in the oil , at least from the dipstick. Would the oil filter have picked up the shavings ? Is there a way to "flush" the motor to get any metal out ? Thanks for your help.

Any way to flush the motor? no not really, whatever filings that came from the distributor gear and went thru the oil ie bearings etc some will get caught by the oil filter .I"ve seen that happen before,(reman dist) not sure why was told the dist gear is softer than cam.Nick

I have a couple of stock Olds distributors with points. Would it work to replace the drive gear on the Petronix unit with the drive gear from a stock distributor ? If so, how do I remove the pin the holds the gear on ?

that pin can be knocked out with a suitably-sized punch.
