1967 442 400 install
Ok, that sounds like a great Idea. should I put the Z Bar on the ball first when installing engine or will I be able to do that after engine is in with out a problem? I have not installed an engine and four speed in about 40 years!
If you have headers, yes, put on together with the headers. If you have stock exhaust, I would think so, no problem to do after engine is in. That's the way it was on my 70, but probley the same for 67.
The Z bar is easy to install afterwards. (I do no use headers) Look for wear on the associated components. Now is the time to repair those items, to repack the grease and to put in a simple Z bar rebuild kit. Make sure that you adjust the free pedal play to spec while you are reinstalling the adjuster anyway.
No —I am saying that I can put a z bar in leaning over the drivers side fender without even looking but I use manifolds. I cannot say regarding a 67 with headers. Another member will need to jump in for that advice.
When you put the header on the driver side. Place it in place, to where it goes on the head, you can put on the front bolt to hold it from falling, then take the Z bar, and stick it through the header tubes, you just have to have the header loose enought so you can move the header so you can get the bar in. If you bolt it in place, you can't move it any, if needed to get it in. This is what is needed to get it in on a 70, Maybe 67, has more room? Also maybe different brand headers, may have more room, than some?
