Someone told me that the hood on the 2001 Aurora is made of aluminum? Any truth to that? Thanks.

 

Get a magnet and put it on the hood (underside, so as not to scratch it). If it sticks, it's steel. If not, it's not and you're probably right.

Doubtful. You wouldn't have rust bubbling up under the paint if it was aluminum.

 

But couldn't there be poor paint adhesion for reasons other than rust?

 

 

my recollection is that on the '01s, the hood and trunk were aluminum in the v8 and steel on the 6. It was a weight saving deal to make up for the v8. Not sure about the other years but the 02 and 03 have the same design trunk as the v8 so they could be aluminum too. Guys at acna would know for sure.

 

I've checked it out. There is no rust on the hood. The ACNA says this is a common problem with Aurora's. The hood and trunk lid are aluminum. Thanks for the responses.
