recall

I finally received my recall letter from GM today on my Alero. I am not impressed with the so called remedy or that there is actually a problem!

Fix is removing RKE from ring so the key is by itself on a ring and then link another ring and then hang the RKE from the last ring!

TLA's such as RKE should be defined so that folks know what it means.

FAVORITE trick of all auto makers anymore- acronymize everything until it's all special jargon. Oh, yah, yer TCM is not talking on the CAN to the BIM or the FAP, so we had to re-FEJ the Frammis Valve's NIK fitting about 20 undersize."

Okay Chris. How's about the military KP, MIA, DMZ, CO and many others.

Brett: I guess with a little more articulation you will have less chance of jostling the key from the run position to the off? GM also states that if you go off road that the shock from the terrain can possibly shut it off.

That's why I don't take my Alero to the sand dunes or mud bogging anymore!

Now back to our regular programming.
R=remote
K=key less
E=entry

If you lock your key inside the car, how do you get inside? With your RKE remote which is in your purse, if you use one, or in your pocket. Why would intelligent people put both VAD's (vehicle access device) on the same key ring? DUH

Well I finally went and had the recall done. I waited to get the people who use their cars every day to get theirs done first. But wanted to show what was done.

Now had this been a USGOV sponsored project that ring would have cost me (US TAXpayer) $500....

Thanks Pat

Yeah That's great

Not like they would replace the entire tumbler like they are supposed to. I already had mine replaced

Yep, this is what Mike Holmes calls "lipstick and mascara"

Total cost is $10.00 parts and labor.

that's it? Like the Guiness commercial ... Brilliant!

My Mrs is a crafter and probably has 7 different size rings like those, in pewter no less. Dozens.

Sometimes it's important to remind an automotive engineer to add fiber to his/her diet.
