Did 66 have them too ? anyway how wide are those louvers ?
has anyone duplicated them in a non 442 hood ?
I am thinking about doing those louvers in my 65 hood . Non #'s matching non 442 car so why not have some fun . No Chevy cowl hood for me !

 

67 had louvers...66 did not on the 442....they are only show and are not open to anything under the hood...a lot of streetrodders have louvered their hoods trunk lids etc... I would assume there is a special tool to do it with. A 67 hood would probably fit on a 66. Am not sure if the latches are the same though.

 

Yes, you can use a 67 hood on a 66, but you must use a 67 core support and fender extensions, 67 bumper, grill, etc. With the diminishing supply of 67 hoods, a friend and I considered making louvers that could be installed in good cutlass hoods, but no louver maker that I contacted had a wide enough die, 67 louvers are approximately 7 inches wide with 2 rows of 12.

 

Digging up an old one here.
Can someone tell me space between louvers?
Or louver top to louver top?
Thinking about making operational ones and it needs to look right.

If your still thinking about this here are some pictures. Let me know if there's any other views you'd like to see. The one showing height is kinda hard with a tape measure, but hopefully you can make a good estimate from the picture. The car is parked near the bird feeder, so you'll have to overlook the debris on the hood . The paint needs help so I haven't taken the time to cover it. John

In 67, the fender extensions were a little longer (to the front), and the contoured part of the hood for the headlights was wider because in 67 Olds had the parking lights between the headlights. The 66 4-4-2 hood was the plain F85 hood without the spear running front to back like Cutlasses had.

Those look like functional louvers? camera tricking me? I thought 442 louvers were not.

 

The louvers go through the skin, but don't go through the metal liner underneath. The 1973 hood is the same although it has a screen in between the hood skin and liner. John

 

The 73 ones fooled me too until I saw that picture of the hood you were willing to cut up. Pretty neat detailing though.

 

One thing about those '67 louvers, any little leaf or pine needle or blade of grass or whatever will get in there, caught between the two metal layers and be a pain in the butt to get out! Price to pay for looks, I guess.
