Edelbrock Victor with OEM 68 hood?
Edelbrock Victor with OEM 68 hood?
I wanted to see if anyone has experience with a 455 dropped in a 68 442 and equipped with a Victor manifold. Can it fit under the stock hood? My guess is that it does not. On Mondello's site, they suggest that they can mill the Victor to fit under stock hoods. That may be true, but I am guessing that must be a 70ish OAI hood, not a 68 or 69 hood.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for all replies.

what a shame, can't get one reply. 54 interested enought to take a peek at the thread, though. I know high performance is somewhat on a back burner here, but as it seems nearly impossible to join the RealO website, I was hoping for someone on this site to help...

The Victor doesn't fit under ANY stock hood as-is.
The only possibility would be to start with a 4150-style intake and mill the carb pad down as much as possible, then use a deep drop-base air cleaner.
I had to use a 4" cowl hood on my '67 to clear the 4500-flange Victor - thats with a deep-drop cleaner and the pad milled about 5/8". The cleaner top still just rubs the underside of the hood.

great responses my 442 brethren! It is nice to know that there is help /advice out there.
I have a 1968 hood in great shape and I hate like h&ll thinking that I would have to store it and then acquire a fiberglass hood to be able to run the Victor. Maybe the better answer is to give up the extra HP and just use the Torker and be able to run a Repo OAI kit (which would be way cool in itself)
The fiberglass hoods that I tried back in the day would "lift" at high speed and were, what I would call, somewhat fragile. I wouldn't want that on a street car and I certainly don't want to have a pin down hood.

I don't even think the torker will fit, with an air cleaner!
My nephew's just makes it, and his intake is milled.
Also have a friend with a small block, and the stock Q-jet sticks above the 4" channeled fenders, and he wants a big block!
Any kind of scoop will restrict visibility, as the top is chopped 5" too, on a '69 Cutlass.
