What do you guys think about this 442?
Hi all,
I've been looking for a 4-speed 442 for some time, so I haven't posted before since I don't actually have one. I was wondering if you could check out the car at the link below and give me your thoughts. There really aren't a lot of great pics, but assuming it's a solid rust free car - what do you guys think it's worth?

BTW, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, so mods can feel free to move it

It looks pretty, not much info.
Doesn't say it's never been messed with?
Need way more pics and the engine and underbody aren't shown?
I would be real careful, the paint almost looks too good, but you never know until you look.
Never buy a car from just pics or the word of the owner/seller. If you really know what you're looking at go check it out if it's close by or travel if you have to. It's a major purchase and better to spend a few bucks to avoid losing way more, and being had. If you don't know find somebody that does know or hire a professional bonded inspector to check it out.
A helpful member here may possibly be able to check it out if they live in the area, maybe even do it for nothing.

I wouldn't mind taking it out on a spirited test flight.

Oh...Ouch.... this was kind of a love at first sight thing mainly because of the way it's optioned, color etc... and it's the original owner. I did feel like the car was over priced (not being a W-30 car and not being a super low mileage car) but wanted your guys' opinions on that. It's close enough to me that I can drive and look at it in 3 hours or less, but I realistically couldn't offer more than in the high 20's. With his BIN, I have a feeling there's no way he'd come down that much, and even then I wondered if I could be over paying.
Like Blue and others said, I'd pluck it like a chicken. Speaking as a child of the 60's lots of these babies got side ways into trees and poles from time to time and got bondoed in the quarters. Take a fridge magnet with ya to check rear quarters, and lower front fenders for repairs to rust or wrecks.
Nice car...but I think the vinyl roof and not having ram air set-up drop the price up to $7500 below 25K...to about 17.5K....and that's if there's no rust or major bondo and if the engine compartment is relatively clean. And that doesn't even take into account that the motor probably could use some help.
Color is a plus...but I'd keep looking. Doubt you could talk him down all the way to a realistic price.

The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of a 1970 442 2-door hardtop in showroom condition, and this car might not be quite that good, at about $32,000. He needs about two-dozen more photos.
A friend of mine at work said that I need to move on
and that he would kick my butt if I even thought of offering more than $24K. I would have to see it in person first, and I am picky considering body work. I just see no way that he would ever come down that much though...That might not be a bad thing because this was kind of a love at first sight thing with the red paint and black vinyl roof, so I've kinda lost my objectivity here which is never a good thing when that much money is involved.

Obviously, you aren't familiar with the phrase "coyote ugly." That's when you wake up the next morning next to last nites "love at first site" and your love is sleeping on your arm. When you see her in the day light you gnaw off your arm to escape rather than wake her up.
Never ever, ever, fall in love with anything that isn't already yours.

All good advice and in this market - there will always be another. And you also have to decide if you want to own a one-owner car that you will be afraid to touch or ever modify - some folks mod like they stole it, others make sure that even the bolts are all original, each has its merits but both can drive you crazy.
Good pick up. It should not have the Oldsmobile badging anywhere. Even the Cutlass had the Oldsmobile on the grill, not the hood.
