1966 442 mirror

Does anybody here know, what type of mirror that is ?

It is the driver-side automatic version in my 1966 442 and I really need a passenger-side to that.

Maybe someone can identify that model, as the "usual" places only show other types of mirrors and I am sure, that the one on the photo is the original...

Please ignore the dirt on the mirror, it is nearly snowing in Austria and that was the last ride this year, before cleaning and storing away..

Thank you !

I can't tell you what mirror that is from, but I can tell you that it is not a correct '66 Olds mirror. The correct '66 mirrors fit both sides, so you may want to consider getting a pair.

Thank you for the fast reply, but strangely enough it is the original one. Could it be that the export/european models had different kinds?

It is even in the workshop-manuals I have with PN 1377714 (mirror assy), but nowhere to find...

And the "originals" you refer to, are much simpler in design and most times not the indoor adjustable automatics (which I would not need as passenger side).

That's interesting. I'll look into this later and let you know.

Where does that number come from? All mirror part numbers of that era are 5 and some 6 digit, but none are 7 digits.

That IS a correct 66 remote control mirror. There were two styles of remote control mirrors used for the 66 model year. The first style was a 2 cable system, while the second style had a three cable system. The 2nd style mirror entered production around Dec 22, 1965.

The Olds Parts and Accessories catalog Feb1966 issue lists the following info in Group 10.186 Mirrors

1966-f85 1st type 2 cable Mirror and cable Assy.......390345

1966 exc Toro 2nd Type 3 cable Mirror Assy....... 1372090

The Assembly manual shows the 3 cable mirror coming in use in Dec. 22 '65.
Page # 1-8.3A

First type remote control 2 cable mirror was prone to breakage.

Thanks for the clarification, Henry. Interesting to learn of the breakage problem. Does explain the the 2 types. Are there external differences and do you know which one he has?

Alex, there still does not appear to be any RH remote mirror to match the one you have.

The 1st and 2nd type remote controlmirrors are completly different in style. First type remote mirror copies the design of the standard 66 mirror. Kind of a flat pancake style.

Alex has the 2nd type which is the best to have.

Thank you both wmachine and 66400 !
Sorry, I was away for some time and could not read your comments earlier.

So, do I understand that right, that there are 2 partnumbers for "my" mirror (1377714 and 1372090) ?

And also, that there are no matching RH types of that mirror ?

If that is so, would there be any reason, why not to use the LH for my purposes, just w/o the remote (which is even better, then having nothing on passenger side) ?

If I could use that, do you have any recommended source for that mirror, as the "usual places" (yearone, summit, us autoparts,...) do not have it listed.

These where a lot of questions... thank you again, you where a great help !

Alex.

Yes.

No reason not to use the non-remote mirror on the right side. The non-remote mirror (not one of the two listed above) is made to be mounted on either side. Understand that the non-remote mirror does not match the remote styles in appearance.

Fusicks (http://www.fusick.com/) has it, and they have a downloadable catalog!
Hope that helps, Alex.
