How are trumpet exhaust tips attached?

How are trumpet exhaust tips attached?
My original trumpet tips fit very nicely over the 2" tail pipes. In the pics I can find there is a hanger a few inches inboard of the tips but I have not seen clamps at the trumpets - were they welded on?

Yes, the OEM tips were tack welded in a few places around the edge of the overlap.
