Help Decoding 65 Trim Tag
Help Decoding 65 Trim Tag
I have checked other threads but could not decode this tag completely. So far I have 65 Cutlass Holiday coupe made 3rd week in September (probably 1964), trim blue vinyl, made in Lansing, exterior paint blue lower, white upper and that's as far as I can go. The car was made for export as it has a kilometer speedo, bucket seats, power windows, driver seat and antenna plus a/c. Thanks.
P.S. Anyone how many gallons the gas tank holds? I left a thread in the Tech section asking but no one answered it.

You, my friend, have one of the most extensive collection of accessory codes I've every seen. Might as well just recite the alphabet!
Here we go:
Column 1
E Tinted windows (not just windshield)
X Power windows
T Power seat
S Power trunk
O Pillar molding for two-tone paint
Column 2
K AC
X Auto floor shift trans
C Console
P Got me. This one has not been determined, best I know. *
T Power antenna
R Rear shelf speaker
Column 4
C Chrome side window sill moldings
Column 5
O Not sure on this one. Seat belt delete?
* You can help me here with this one. Column 2P. What option do you have that hasn't been covered? I don't think it would have to do with it being an export, but it may. It would have to some kind of modification to the body that is required for an option. (Like AC requires certain firewall piercings)

I think that is a good stab at it Jason, as this has the light. But I'd have to say not. It is not a body modification. Dash options don't qualify. I also know of '66s with the light with no code. I'm pretty confident that can't be it. I'm e-mailing this thread to Glenn.
Kurt thanks for all that decoding. It is hard to tell on the car what is original and what is added or deleted after 40 odd years in Thailand. Take a look to the right of the wiper control as there is a red indicator light. Might be for the parking brake (inop at the moment). There is an odd thing on the body as the back up lights have amber lenses and they look original. At the moment they are the rear turn signal indicator lights. Besides the 200 kilometer spedo I can't find any other accessories. Oh there is a button on the wiper switch, is this for a washer??

I wonder if the amber b/u lights converted to turn signals were due to a foreign country requirement for amber (and not red) turn signals. I don't recall ever seeing this in any export date. I have my doubts that it is a factory export setup. Even if it is, I don't see where that either would get a body accessory code.
The 2P *could* have to do with export, but I haven't figured out how yet, I need to go over what all is part of the export options. If it is, that would explain why it is so rare!
Its the Column 1 "O" on your tag. The vinyl had to be added, as the F85 vinyl roofs didn't start until '66. Specifically, the O isn;t for the two tone paint or vinyl top, it is for the holes required in the body to mount the stainless trim that separates the top from the body on cars with those options.
No. Steering wheel type and/or column (tilt, etc) are not in the body tag accessory codes. There are no body modifications needed for those options.
Column 5 Y is definitely deluxe front & rear seat belts in '66 and '67. I think they *may* be for '65 too, but I'm not certain. The codes are definitely not all the same for all years.

Option A49 was Deluxe front only, with re-tractors.
Was that way from the beginning of the model year to the end.
Possibly 5W was A49, and 5Y was A39?

Guys, Here is a better picture of the steering wheel and column. It is a tilt column but the wheel has a white leathe/vinyl trim.

You will probably have a nice woodgrain under the leather on the wheel...
What I really want to know is how you put a toyota engine in that thing... maybe you can post some swap info on that one

Shouldve known that, I have the dealer check sheet posted on my site.
TK -65 what site would that be? You can view and download pics of the car off my website. http://picasaweb.google.com/rdrokit

Thank you MR. Bush and MR. Obama.
moc-ct, thanks for the offer on the block but being in Thailand I have many problems not had in the States. Mainly there are no machine shops here set up to work on V-8 engines, and second, any part I import with a value over $34.00 is subject to a 35% import/customs tax. Since I am retired on a fixed income (and the US dollar keeps getting devalued) I do not have the funds needed to restore an original engine. When I retired here, 4 years ago, I got 42 baht (Thai currency) for every US dollar, now I get 34. That is a loss of almost 20% of my income.
Thank you MR. Bush and MR. Obama.

Just to let you guys know Kurt was correct about the amber b/u lights. It is a law here that front and rear turn signals must be amber. Also, the front parking/turn signal lights have a clear lens with an amber lens behind it. I wonder if these front lens are the same all all 65s?
All letters before the first number (usually a "2") are column 1 code letters. All codes between numbers are for the column code number preceding the letters.
Bear in mind these codes only apply to Lansing and Framingham plants (for the most part) and not Fremont and some others.
Always best just to post a pic of the data plate!
Presume you mean Accessory code G? Need to know what the "column" number is. Meaning:

Thanks for the answer on the front lenes. No problem hijacking my thread as we are all one family here. Post a photo of your data plate here. It's OK.
Sorry, I'm not going to be able to help you out with that one. That is a "column 1" G, and I don't know what that is.
99% of the codes gathered and documented apply to F85 coupes, sedans, and converts. A "column 1" G hasn't shown up yet.
Same body option code should be the same regardless of model, so most likely it is an option exclusive to the wagons. Could be something like a roof-rack.

Since the third seat determination is in the model number, it wouldn't be part of the Accessory Codes.
We're back to something like the roof rack. Does yours have it?
Okay, I checked the books. In '65, the model determined the third seat. There were 4 models; Standard 2 seat, Standard 3 seat, Custom 2 seat, and Custom 3 seat.
Since the third seat determination is in the model number, it wouldn't be part of the Accessory Codes.
