We wet sanded with 1000 then again with 2500. It still has a few little bumps here and there but we'll do it again late in the summer after things shrink up a little.

 

Anybody have any tire cleaner?

Thanks guys, we gave it our best shot,
We pushed it out into the sunlight to see if the metallic paint was blotchy and it was very nice. Every time we do a car we learn a few things. The lessons learned on this car is to clean the paint guns extra good or change guns when switching colors. If you look back you'll see my son paintng the jams with a small gun. We used that gun to paint the black stripes and the black has a very slight metal flake in it. The stripes glitter in the sun. Thankfully the metal flake is evenly dispersed and very light but it is still a mistake.

 

My son is painting a 68 Firebird for a friend. It is a 400 4 speed car. The same guy has three 1970 GTO Judges he wants painted, then a 71 Cutlass conv for another friend, then a 55 Chev and possibly a 1970 Mustang from other guys. I told him he could work his way through college in the garage, it beats flippin burgers.

 

Looks like I'll have to wait in line If he keeps lining up that much work you're going to have to hook him up with a fancy schmancy paint booth

I figured out the glitter is in the clearcoat. We used the same gun to clear the car after we painted it. I would have swore we did a good job cleaning it.

Looks great! My friends car is the same color and just buffed out also. He has a 70 442 drag car (just painted and buffed) 67 cutless and a 65 442. He has been on my back to buy a olds and is the reason I have the 64.

Nice job! Even all the panels look like they line up perfect. I can only imagine how long that took. Post more pics when you get it all back together.

 

We worked hard to get it to fit extra nice. The hood was up a little in one pic because after we put the rubber spacers inside the fenders it seems a little tight and holds the hood up until you manually push down the side. We may need to adjust it a little. The thing I noticed at Barret Jackson was how few cars really fit nicely. They seemed slamed together for a quick sale. I hope it runs as good as it looks. I got the original block in storage and found a 71 455 with E heads on Craigs list. The guy swore it was rebuilt and I can see it was. All 8 exhaust ports were clean and light gray. We pulled the pan and installed my crankshaft drilled for a stick and some new rod and main bearings. The oil pump was new so I shimmed the spring the width of a 1/4-20 nut and threw it back together. It has 65 pounds oil pressure when we primed the engine. I got my fingers crossed.
