1967 442 Supreme Holiday Coupe

I am currently investigating a 1967 442 Supreme Holiday Coupe. I have not yet visited the car personally However I have garnered some information and pictures should be available to me in the next few days. There has been some restoration but it sounds like a very nice driver. The owner passed away before engine was reinstalled. The car is for sale by the estate. I have read about 66-67 442 verification and it does become confusing at times.

Data Plate :

06D
ST 67-33817 LAN30229

TR 988 B Y-Y PAINT

W 2EXGR
5 Y

just over 100,000 k miles.

Has the Following equip. PS, AC, Tilt S/W, Console w/ Strato Buckets, Rally PAC.

Engine rebuilt recent, 400 CI with verified casting #390925E, has "C" heads, correct intake manifold # verified, dual exhaust car with correct exhaust manifold #'s verified.

TH 400 Auto Trans with posi 12 bolt, boxed rear lower control arms. SS wheels verified.

Body has a "Y" 5 year old correct paint. New 3 years Black vinyl top, with new 3 years black vinyl interior. I can understand that because an all yellow car would not be my cup of tea.

Engine rebuilders indicate that 400 CI looked like original engine. No current details on rebuild details but will be available also shortly. Shop that installed engine did a nice job. Rally PAC has yet to be wired. Supposedly rides very nicely and had a 250 mile trip after rebuild with no issues.

There is no original paper trail other than an owners manual.

My issue is the lack of the 5V code and that the car really checks out as a 442. There is no paper trail yet. What do you think, is it or isn't it a 442?

Thanks
Wayne

Thanks Jeff, I did that. Is it not a 442 then. The readout is conclusive?
Thanks

There are others on here that are definitely more versed in this than I am. I had the same question and found that link on this site. My results clearly stated 442 package.

There is nothing confusing about this. It's a Lansing car and it does not have the "5V". It is NOT a real 442. The only time a real 67 442 did not get the "5V" would be for cars built at the Fremont plant. That does not apply here.

Since there was no VIN derivative stamp use in 1967, unless you have the Protect-O-Plate, you cannot verify that the 400 is original to the car. It could also have been a Turnpike Cruiser, in any case.

Joe. Here is a picture of the data plate. No 5V on the plate so it is definitely not a 442.

Correct. A real Lansing-built 67 442 cowl tag would have a 5V or 5VY like this one:

I would go as far as to say it is not even a turnpike cruiser due to the option codes. 2EXGR

E HAS SOME IRREGULARITIES BUT COULD BE AC
X 2 SPEED TRANS SO ST300 IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A Z FOR TH400 TO BE A TC
G CONSOLE
R REAR SPEAKER

So not a 442 and not a turnpike Cruiser.

Yup. So the 400 isn't original.

I advised the person selling the car and he was appreciative of the education. Estate sales are tough as sometimes responsibilities fall on someone not knowledge able enough on the subject. My search goes on.
Thanks

Looking at a 67 442
So if a California car what to look for in that case?

Is it just those 2 places that 67 442's were built?

1967 442s could have been built in Lansing, Framingham, or Fremont. Unfortunately, Fremont did not use the 5V or 5VY code on the cowl tag, which is why there are now more Faux-Four-Twos from Fremont than real 442s built that year.

Unfortunately, with out a build sheet or other documentation, you really can't prove that a 1967 Fremont car is a real 442. The best you can do is ensure that EVERYTHIGN that makes it a 442 is correct. Certainly if the Protect-O-Plate shows the correct engine code for a 442 engine, that would be proof, but few sellers have the P-O-P anymore.

Thank you Joe! I will keep studying, I have yet to see it but its a friend offering it to me at a price that would be worth it even for a clone.
Big project, which I don't need, 4speed 67 442 does sound like a great addition to my shop(currently w/o a muscle car) conflict.... LOL
