My dad has a 69 442 the vin # is rusted out except for the last for digits that read 0006. Where else did they hide the vin # on 69 442's? Any help appreciate. Please email to bjpenn7@yahoo.com response in addition to posting it on this site
thanks in advance.

Two quick places to look to find what is called the VIN derivative, but you might have to do some cleaning and/or move brackets to see clearly.
1. On the driver side forward part of the engine block, just below the "C" on the forward part of the head, there is a pad where the VIN derivative is stamped. If the engine is original to the car, this VIN derivative will be a rough match to the VIN of the car. If the car has power steering, a bracket goes right across this area and it's hard to see unless that pad is clean and you use a mirror and a flashlight to observe it. A better way is to remove that bracket, clean the pad and read the number. The VIN derivative will look like this:
39(a letter or number, either E, M, Z, or 1)(another number, either 1, 2, or 3), and then 5 numbers. If the last 4 numbers of your dad's VIN are 0006, then the last 4 numbers here will also be 0006 if the engine is original to the car.
2. On the transmission, again if the tranny is original to the car. If it's a manual transmission, the VIN derivative will be stamped into the driver's side vertical surface of the housing (can be seen from under the car - might have to clean off oily dirt first and use a flashlight). If it's an automatic transmission, the VIN derivative is also stamped into the driver side, but on a horizontal surface between two ribs in the housing - it would take a mirror and a flashlight (and some cleaning if it's dirty) to see.
In the end, the real VIN on the dash should appear like this:
344, followed by
67 (if it's a convertible),
77 (if it's a sports coupe - that is, a post coupe),
87 (if it's a holiday coupe - that is, a 2-door hardtop - no post), followed by
VIN derivative, less the 3 that starts the VIN derivative,
and if the numbers 0006 are correct,
344(number)79(letter or number)(1,2, or 3)(number)0006.
Hope this helps.
