Switching to a 4speed

I've got a '69 442, that is currently an automatic. I'd like to put a 4 speed in it. My dad and I are doing this project together and he seems to think that we have to find an original.

Are there any alternatives? Can we buy the transmission and bell housing ( + other parts) elsewhere? Has anyone done this?

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Welcome to Classic Olds, Jackie.

That question has been asked once or twice before here if I recall.

You might wish to peruse these threads:
Auto to Manual,
Converting Auto to Manual,
72 Cutlass Manual Trans Conversion,
Auto to Manual Conversion Parts,
Ideas Where to Get a 4-Speed, and
Manual Conversion.

If those aren't enough, you can use the search function to find another hundred .

The folks here would also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

You may be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but you'll never be able to teach your Dad how to use the Internet.
