Picture of original factory antenna for '68 442

Does anyone have a pic of the original factory antenna for a 1968 442? I need a new antenna, and there's one on eBay that claims to be an original NOS piece for $110, plus $18 shipping, but there's also one that looks real close, from what I remember (chrome cone instead of black one at base of mast) for only $28, and actually the chrome cone looks better than the black one. Any input will be welcome.

I assume you're looking for a hardtop. This is from a 69 442. Should be the same as 68. A convertible one does not have the "V" at the top. If a pic of a convertible one is what you need I probably have one too somewhere or I can take a pic of mine.

I also have a hard top I'll try to remember getting pictures of when I get home.

The one on ebay is a set up that I have never seen before on a 68/69 non power antenna car.

A factory antenna should have the bullet tip

here is mine off my 68

also in that ebay ad it makes mention of the brand name, regardless that is not a GM nos manual antenna set up for 68/69. Its nos but not GM

Wasn't the mast also oval, not round for 68?

Fusick has a repro 68 front fender antenna thats almost dead nuts. Its just the mast assembly not the whole assembly. The black nut is available too. Only a good trained eye will spot it. I nearly missed it too. But its 99% correct with the bullet tip and oval mast. The height is just a little shorter that the factory. Its reported to be a 100% correct GTO part, 67 or 8. I purchased one and am quite happy with it. Its was one of the only remaining allusive 68 parts that needed to be replaced on my 68.

The one that's on mine now is one of those universal angle-it-in-any-position-you-want antennas, and it looks like crap. I did look at fusick and it appears all they have is the mast. I think I need the whole thing, and mine's on the front passenger fender and mine's a convertible and it's not a power antenna. I found an old pic of the car when my buddy owned it when it was fairly new, and I remember seeing that black cone, but if the eBay one isn't original, I don't want to spend $130 on it when $28 will get me about as close to the factory original.

here is what you need if you want to go original
the base, spacer and nut are the most important, you can get a nut and mast from Fusicks
Here is a pic to reference

I’d like to reactivate this thread. Some of the photos are no longer available. My question is on the 68 442, what does the original from the factory base look like on a non powered radio antenna? I believe the consensus was that it should have a chrome base. Can anyone confirm this with a photo? Thanks.

alleyolds68's photo is correct. My Cutlass had the same antenna, black base, oval mast, bullet tip. I bent mine because the first section is taller than the roof, and when I first attempted to park my Cutlass under my lift (which leaves only ~1.5" of margin above the roof) I bent it bad enough to need replacement. I ended up w/ a generic 3-piece mast antenna that can be lowered into the fender to avoid that mishap again. I never realized that an OEM replacement was so difficult to find.

(Not-so-funny story: I did the same stupid thing and bent the power antenna on my '98 T/A the same way. Now my lift has a big sign that says "LOWER ANTENNA".)

Funny story. So do the original masts that don’t retract into the fender have a thread that I’ll be able to make an easy change to go original?
