New springs for the 442
Hi, The front and rear springs are tired in my 67 442 ragtop. I want to install new ones but nothing radical as I like the stock ride although I would like it to sit a little higher in the back. Any recormendatios?

If you go with stock front springs, be sure to read through this thread.

Sometimes you can get a set of coils which are just not manufactued correctly also. I got a set with the correct application and specs for a 71 Chevelle, broke my spring compresser trying to install them borrowed anther set finally got them in by chaining my floor jack to the a-arm and forcing them in. Even when I was done installing the engine and front, the it would not move down more than a 1/4 inch whith me standing on it.

There's one thing you need to be careful about on the 1967 cars. The Type O rear axle was a mid-year change. The difference is that the early 67 cars used rear springs with a full diameter bottom coil and the bolt-on plate to retain the bottom. The Type O axles use springs with a reduced diameter bottom coil and no retainer plate. Be sure you get the correct springs.

Sears sold my mom new shocks and springs when I was not around ...
I came back to town and she was complaining about the ride. They had installed "too stiff" springs and the ride was choppy and the car sat high ...
The service writer and I were going round and round about it until I told him that the car had to sit at a factory spec ride height . he couldn't argue the car any lower so they had to replace them. He told my mom later that I was the rudest customer ever..
Does any one have those specs. Also for 70 ..?

I just ordered some front springs from Fusick's. They cut them specifically according to your make, model, year, engine type & transmission. I know a bunch of other supply companies say they're for an Oldsmobile, but really they're generic springs for all GM cars of the same body style. Hence, why the ride height often is not correct.
You can also request stiffer springs from them.

front springs
My new front springs suck, I let the guy at the place I bought my front end kit from convince me that Chevelle springs would work on my 64 F-85 flat top wagon (NOT) they are so stiff there is no travel, I have a 330 no air, manual steering, SSBC power disc brakes with a 2" dropped spindle, I have searched this site and found the stiff new spring front end to be fairly common, anybody have the solution ? I did read thru the recommended thread but did not find the answer,I think I will order a set from Fusick, sure would like to hear from someone who has done this before I throw more money at it.

My 67 sits a little low in the front. Also it sits lower on the left front than the right. The rear springs had adjustible spacers and I have air shocks so the rear is not a problem for now. I do like the way the car rides and I'm not sure I want to risk loosing it. Any thoughts?
