new 68 69 442 bumpers?

I saw an add on ebay and a listing on BAP online for new 68 and 69 front and rear bumpers. When did they start making these as I have never seen a listing for them before? Has anyone purchased one and what was the quality like?

I am skeptical, especially since a buddy bought new Asian bumpers for his 70 Nova and they were simple junk. Poor chrome, die drawing marks all through them and very wavy.

I would appreciate any feedback.

They have a listing for front & rear in their catalog but I've never seen one. It's quite possible that they put that in there to gauge interest.

I was at Fusick three months ago & asked them if they were reproducing or if anyone was talking about doing it. Fusick is definitely not right now but he said other vendors are always "talking" about it. Fusick is pretty straight up. If someone else was reproducing them I think they would have told me. The Nationals are next week, I assume Brothers would be there. If they are they should have a couple of these bumpers there (if they exist) I'd start by picking up the phone & calling them. I'd want to see that they are actually producing them too before I send them any money.

The reason I asked Fusick about reproductions was I had two core 68 442 bumpers and I needed one rechromed. I was thinking about having both rechromed but didn't want to do the second if someone was making them as the values always drop once a reproduction is made. I ended up getting just one done anyway.

It took me a year and a half to find an original 69 442 bumper. It's worth the wait to get the real thing.

I actually have two orginal 69 442 bumpers that need chromed and some small rust hole repairs around the brackets. It is just so expensive to get a good triple chrome job and based on all of the stories of poor chrome jobs, I am aprehensive. Paul's chrome is great and they are close but, $1200 each????

I am in a similar boat here. I have a pair of '68 442 bumpers needing re-chrome, but the fierce pricing of chroming makes them sit. They are not even of any use to me since I have a '69, but are too expensive to ship if I were to sell them.

Here is the reply I got from BAP about the 69 442 bumpers. I sounds like they are in work. However, I want to see one in person before buying based on other aftermarket stuff I have seen.

The 69 bumpers are about 60-90 days from being done. They are being triple plate, not flash plated. They will be $439 for the bumper and shipping will be $80-$100 depending on where it is being shipped. If you leave me your phone number we can put you on the bumper list and give you a call when we have inventory if you like.
Thank You,
Garret

I am not a big fan of BAP, and I have perched several hundred $ worth of parts. Not any more.

received bumper in two days!!it came in a box that was marked taiwan so i was a little disappointed at first opened box set next to original looked real nice.weighed about the same.chrome looks real nice.next to see how it fit.my old bumper was bent up a little bit so it took a little bit to get is aligned.i will spend more time this winter getting it a little better need to get some new bolts that go in frame section.pretty rusty.need the bolts that have a spacer built into them.wondering if i could find a backwards threaded nut to get it apart.took couple pictures in garage waiting for tires take more when i get out into the open.if need more pics let me know.overall it looks real nice definitely better than what i had.still would be nice to get original fixed up but not in budget this year.went a little over already.

Interesting...I just had 3 '68's fixed/replated (1 frt, 1 Cutlass rear, 1 cutout) because I thought that was the only option...

Are you looking for the bumper bracket frame mount stud that has like a 1/2" thick spacer in the middle of it ? Me too. Lemme know if you find them....
