Need Members advice

Coming along with the 64 restoration. I have a couple of questions and I need input. First, I have attached a picutre of the restored air cleaner and want to know which tin plate you would apply, the original or the reproduction. I think the original would provide character, but the repro is, well, new. The only difference I can tell is that the 442 numbers are a little smaller than the original.
Second, I have attached two different wire wheel covers, well, really, the only difference is the logo in the center cap. Which one is the 64? I'm thinking one is 64, the other is 65.

I have also attached a pic of the original wheel covers that came with the car.

Thaks for your help.

Randy

I believe the one with the actual rocket is for the Cutlasses, the other is for big cars. Id use the original pie plate, the colors of the new one look off too. Its not something that anyone is going to know or knock you for however. On my 65 I used an original for the same reason as you, the repop is not totally correct.

I've wondered about this too. There are no rocket logos anywhere on my 64 so I don't understand why they would use it just on the spinners. I have been told the 2 bar spinner was correct for 64 (which is verified in the documentation I have) and they went to 3 bars on the 65+. The wire wheels our car was purchased with have what appears to be the Starfire logo in the centre (or close to it). It looks the same as the first picture Randy posted above. I have the original F-85 emblem wheel covers as well for it. Someone last summer gave me a wire cover with the Rocket logo on it and I suspected it was 65+ which used the rocket logo all over but it did have the two bar spinner.

Joe, do you mind me asking where you got the info from? I'd love to know for sure either way.

2-bar with horizontal Rocket is 1964. That is the left picture.

2-bar with vertical Rocket is 1965. The one in the pic has had the plastic center rotated. It should be perpendicular to the spinner bar. 2nd from left.

3-bar is 1966, plain center cap is 1967, large "saucer" center is 1968.

The LH picture isn't a rocket. It's the emblem used on the 64 full size cars, isn't it? My J88 has that emblem. I also belive that it's upside down.

Air Cleaner Badge

I would go with the original tin plate. By going with the original it defines the character of you and your car that you have worked hard on to restore. Both of you deserve the recognition you will receive for your diligence. If you go with a re-pro, you might be giving the onlooker an inclination that something else may be "iffy". Your work on air cleaner looks great, compliment it with the right badge. You have it, use it.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input, going with the original

Thanks everyone, I think I was planning to do that all along, it only seems right. Here's a few more pictures of the restoration. I worked on the frame all last week, it is now ready for blasting and paint. That is, if it ever stops raining here is SE NC. Still waiting for the skin to grow back on my knuckles. I'm very thankful for air tools.

More pics

I know, it's the frame, boring. But, I'm thrilled I'm at this point.

No, I'm not installing the 455, that's in my 71. But it came out really good.
