Looking for advice on 455 engine paint color

I am installing a 455 engine in a 1969 442. I know that the original 400 engine color was bronze. I can't decide if I should paint the new engine bronze, red or blue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, who makes the best and most durable engine paint?

One last question, spay it on or brush it on?

I like the POR 15 brush on paint. I believe you can get the Oldsmobile bronze color from them. It might not match exactly but every other paint will eventually burn off the engine.

try Hirsch paint.. paint it whatever color floats your boat.. OEM colors don't mattter if you're not doing a correct matching restoration. personally, I like a color that'll jump out, & grab ya.

The color is your call, but I'm using bronze on the 455 in my 69. Alternately, the 68-69 455 motors were actually red (as is the one in my H/O).

69442,

I was in the same boat. My '68 has a '71 455 so I painted it blue. My thinking was that I'm not hiding the fact it is a 455 and I'm not trying to suggest that it is a 455 Hurst motor, so blue seemed a natural. I've actually never had anyone comment on it one way or another...surprisingly. BTW, I used rattle can engine paint (OE correct) from Year One. Holds up pretty well. Good luck

I've used both Hirsch and Tamarz engine paints, and they've both held up very well. I can't imagine using a brush to paint an engine

Here's the thread when I painted my 69 455 in my Vista Cruiser. I bought the paint from Fusick's. Same red as my H/O
