Is this the correct look for a battery topper for a 1970 442

'70 442s used a much longer battery originally (factory installed)....the R71S.....so that topper would be "incorrect" if you were trying to find a "correct" topper. Here's a thread where the R71 is mentioned:

I believe the correct battery is the R71S.

I phrased the question incorrectly. They do not make battery toppers for R71 size batteries, in the correct style for a 1970 442 (that I can find).

So, I guess my question should have been… since you can’t get a battery topper for a battery size equivalent to an R71, is this the correct appearance of the battery, if it was the correct size.

on a sidenote, the only allegedly correct reproduction of it, a R71 battery is back ordered 6 to 9 months, from the only supplier, I could find where you can actually buy the battery from.

ericisback- compare your pic to the pic of the R71S that Hairy Olds just posted......it looks like there are some differences in appearance (beyond the size difference).

Plus - here's another thread on this site....shows what a repro R71S looks like if you scroll down a bit:

Based on the posted photo of an original R71, it looks like the topper I originally referenced does not resemble the original battery…

does anyone know where you can get a topper that resembles the original battery?

Interestingly, enough, the actual reproduction S71 looks just like the R59 battery topper:

I would go without the battery topper if the correct one is not available.
Frankly the toppers are not my cup of tea.
You could purchase one of my R71s if you would like.
