Console Tach Wiring

I am installing a 4 speed console with console mounted tach in a non console 66 442. The console mounted tach has 3 wires coming from it: black, grey, and brown. I need to know which wire goes where. Thanks guys for any help you can offer.

Jay

If it's anything like the '68, the brown goes to the (-) side of your coil, the grey goes into your dash lighting so your tach will light up when the dash lights are on, and the black is ground.

I did figure out the wiring, thanks to Randy.

Brown - Negative side of coil
Gray - Dash Lights
Black - Ground

Here are some pictures of the console top plate with the tach installed and also with the entire setup installed in the car. I was installing the console in a non-console car, so I had to layout where the console should be located and tap into existing wiring to get the tach set up. Hope this helps.

That console top is sure sharp looking. Chrome looks beautiful. Nice package.

Slam1918,

I tapped into the dash light circuit to get power for the light inside of the tach, I tapped into the ground wire for the cluster, and I ran a wire straight to the the coil for the tach signal.

HonestDave,

Thanks for the compliments. I started with a decent looking set of console tops, one for the shifter area and one for the compartment area. I polished the chrome parts and taped them off very carefully with blue painters tape. You have to tape the sides where it meets the ridged center areas. I used a razor blade to carefully cut the overlapped tape along that seam to get it just right. I then painted the center areas with 3 coats of Krylon Fusion semi-gloss black. I also painted the console base with the same paint and same amount of coats. It came together nicely and looks great in the car. I will try to post a pic of it all back together tonight.
