Bolts and Nuts or bumper brackets- black?
Bolts and Nuts or bumper brackets- black?
Hi Guys,
Dumb question- what color were the nuts, bolts and washers used on the front and rear bumper brackets on my '68 442? I'm talking about the ones holding brackets to the frame.
I'm guessing they were either grey (standard metal color) or treated somehow to a black color?
I'm getting all the small pieces ready to assemble my '68 442 Convertible….not doing show quality yet trying to stay as correct as possible when I can.
Thanks.

When I did my '68, it appeared to me that nearly all of them were black oxide. So that's the way I did it, only with a black paint that gives the appearance of black oxide. I bought a black oxide kit from Eastwood that worked nicely but the darn bolts started to rust as soon as water hit them.

Thanks Randy- really appreciate the heads up. I was going to order that phosphate kit…now I will go towards the paint route. Good enough for what I'm after.
Do you remember which paint you used?
Eastwood has a really nice phosphate paint yet it's more grey based not black.
Thanks again
