86 442 455 Swap

I'm going back and forth trying to decide what to do. I've got an 86 442 that is bone stock but in very good shape except for the motor. Its shot and i'm not rebuilding a 307. I have a 75 350 with 330 heads OR a 69 Toro 455 at my disposal. I had decided to use the 350 until the 455 came available (cheaply too). Has anybody done a 455 to gbody swap? Anything i should look out for? My car's a/c does work and because it is a very nice car i do want to keep it without modifying the air box. Can this be done?

the 350 would be very easy and satisfactory

Better yet, a 403 with the 33 heads and crank...

A 455 will drop right in there. I had an 80 that went 260, 350, 455, and back to a 350 before I sold it...all on the same frame mounts and exhaust pipes.
If you want headers then stick with the 350, but if you are content with manifolds (don't be afraid of them with a 455) then do the 455.
You might have to do some electrical messing around to make the A/C work from what I've heard because it's tied into the computer somehow?? Other wise it's pretty much a bolt and go.
Depending on what you do for exhaust you'll probably need new head pipes bent up if you go with the 455 and manifolds (get the W/Z).

As far as google, been there, done that. I read through several different posts but nothing very detailed. I like to know what i'm getting into before i go knee deep. So far, most of the folks on this site are pretty detail oriented and seem to take pride in their cars. Anybody can whack and hack a BBO into a g body, but I want it to look worth having when i get through.

So apparently you didn't get to this one, which is about the most comprehensive 455 swap page out there:

http://www.robertpowersmotorsports.c...ss-Engine.html

Note in particular the mods to the A/C compressor bracket to accommodate the taller deck height.

Thanks Joe. You're always on the ball. Either way i go with the 442, I've gotta gets some pics for you guys to see. Nice survivor car (except for the A-hole that stole the breather). On another note, I realized today that i have more BBO motors than i have cars to put them in right now. I guess thats a good problem to have.
