72 Convertible Stripes

Hi All,
I am new to this forum, just got a 72 cutlass conv. 442 that has been repainted... can someone please post some pics of the correct stripe package with a louvered hood not oai, and side striping with trunk. I would like it to look original... have done many searches with no luck. Thanks in advance for any help!

try searching, someone on here posted a pic of their 72 supreme with original stripes I think it was a gold (or maybe green) car but the stripes were one of the nicest looking stripes I've ever seen, subtle but really nice.

442 side stripes

I thought the side stripes should be wider than the ones shown in these ebay pics? I have a picture that shows wide horizontal stripes with narrow stripes over the wheel openings. My picture could be a W-30, I don't know if this would be different from a 442 for this year. I'm restoring a very beat-up '72 442 convertible and would like to know what's correct too.

those would be W30 stripes that are different than standard 442 side stripes

Eh it's not that bad, but then again here's another. Also, gotta love the fairly common mistake of incorrectly installed headlamp bezels too. It's like someone saw the front end on a '69 Skylark and said "yeah, that must be how they go on this Olds" .

Yup, it will look good until they try to align the headlights. Then they'll either realize their mistake or not.

Didja see the retarded way Olds put the headlight alignment screws in the wrong place? Hadta take off the whole front bezel just to align them.

Really? And who put them on the wrong sides?

I saw an episode of " Whats my car worth" and the were appraising a 442 with the headlight bezels misaligned like the picture. The said it would cross the block at 70k, but it hammered at I think 23k. How could those so called pros miss something like that.

Steve - if you watch any of the auctions, it seems like Oldsmobile is the girl that came to the dance by herself. For some reason, you have to be an Olds nut to want one. The general average person at the auction is focused in on Chev and Ford.

Joe - the W30 stripes just look way cooler IMO. It makes a difference only if you're hard core serious about being absolutely right in the car's appearance. I for one decided I liked them too, and put them on my car. I do NOT claim it to be a W30, it's just a great looking car.

Fusicks sells the stencil kit for the steel hood, they list it as '71-'72, but that hood stripe was only used on the '72's.

Just for ref, a '71 was a wide stripe between the two hood bulges falanked by a thinner pin strip on each side.

Ya know, I really like the tri stripe used on the '71 steel hoods, but not too many have it, or have the right one.

Well all I can say is wait till you see the new paint on RJ's 71. It's awesome. He'll be sharing it with everyone soon as its done. I've seen the pics, but have sworn to secrecy. I hate to spoil someone else's build.
