70 power trunk release and lock question

I am installing a power trunk release. The shaft of the trunk lock is a different shape than the hole in the power trunk mechanism. Is there a different lock shaft that fits this shape hole? The shape is like a pie with the 2 diagnal quarters removed. Thanks

I just put a power trunk on my 71 Cutlass and I think the slot looked funny on the latch but it still worked with the regular flat linkage from the key. In fact now I think about it if it wasn't shaped like that the power latch would have to turn the key when you released the lid using the power release?? Yeah I think so, when you use the key it just releases the latch and doesn't move the power solenoid and vise versa.

That odd shape is normal - the latch will work correctly when installed.

Greg,

I think you are spot on! Makes sense to me. I considered to JB weld the "windows" closed and just have the rectangle like the key operated setup. That would have messed things up really good!
When I changed it out last year it worked fine (both auto and key) ....then I tried just the key the other day and it did not work. I come to find out the lock set is shot tonight. Time to get a new one.

Lady72andRob71,

Thanks for the response! You have helped me allot in the past 3 years!
