70 OAI hood scoop correctness
I'm getting the hood repainted on my 70 442 on Monday. I want to clean up the hood scoops and want to make sure it is done correctly. Currently it appears there's a seam that goes widthwise inside the scoop. I have attached a photo. Is this correct?

I have attached a couple of pics from my 1970 hood. It looks like your hood has some areas filled in that are not filled in on mine (on the right and left sides, extending back into the hood). Also, as the others have explained, the inner scoop area should be blacked out. Mine was recently re-painted and I have not yet blacked them out (a job for today). I hope this helps. Good luck with your project!

Here are a couple of pictures from the first coat on my hood today. I am far from an expert, though. Maybe others can offer advice. I did use semi-gloss black paint.

I went back to the place were I bought my car to look at the unmolested 72 442 (see attached picture) they still had in their possession although it had sold. Looking at the scoops I saw my scoop had been done entirely incorrectly including no recessed areas on the vertical sides of the scoops. I rush to the body shop hoping to intercept them before they finished the body work on the hood as I had not given them this detailed instruction.
I was too late as they had completed the body work. Amazingly to my relief, they had done the scoops exactly like the 72 and the other pictures I had seen. They had stripped off the incorrect bodywork and with pictures I provided and other pictures on the net, they were able to accurately redo the hood scoops. So hats off to Tualatin Autobody and their So Cal Hot Rod shop for taking the time to do the scoops correctly.

Sometimes you don't always know until they shine like this. I had used them once to fix my Packard hood and they did a good job. This is why I went back to them. For simpler jobs I have a less expensive place. But I always say it's better to pay extra for a good job then pay too little for job that needs to be redone.
