Cool. FYI, the column shift was what you got if you simply ordered the AT (RPO M40). The floor shift was extra cost. The bench was also a readily available credit option (RPO A52). Neither were "special order", just boxes that got checked on the regular order sheet. Good luck with the car. The correct rear would be a Type O axle.
There's nothing wrong with a column shift or bench car for automatics. A properly set up transmission will shift better than most people on its own. I can see the argument for floor shifters for manual cars, although banging the three is fun.
