69 442 Convertible with factory A/C

Iíve recently purchased a numbers matching cameo white 69 442 Convertible that came new with options including power hood, power disc brakes & boot release, factory A/C (and manual windows).
Iím keen to find out how many convertibles left the factory with A/C.
Does anybody know or where would I find out??
Thanks

That information is not available anywhere. You would be surprised at how many of them did leave with AC though. Almost everyone I know that has a vert has AC in it, unless the car was destined for Canada. For some reason our cars just didn't have the demand for AC up here.

There is a misconception that in a convertible you can just drop the top and cruise in comfort.
AC in a convertible is as necessary as AC in a hardtop. When it's 100+ degrees or 90% humidity, you need the top up and AC on, just like you would roll up the windows and turn the AC on a hardtop.

Agree. At times when I drop the top on my vert on a hot day, I run the A/C and direct the vents towards my face to keep cool. Yeah, its silly inefficient, but I rarely travel a significant distance w/ the top down anyway. Same thing on cool days w/ the top down I run the heater (but direct it towards the floor).

WRT the power roof, was that even an OPTION? I thought ALL Oldsmobile convertibles had power tops (excepting the really old ones, pre '60s).

Even Canadian data will not provide information about how many convertibles had AC. It's limited to what was on the window stickers of the cars exported for sale here. There's just not a huge market for that information on Olds to justify cataloging all the specific details.

Yes, it is. Here's the breakdown.
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
44 = model series = 4-4-2
67 = body type = convertible
9 = model year = 1969
M = assembly plant = Lansing MI
2594?1 = plant sequential number

About the only thing we know regarding '69 4-4-2 convertible production is there were 4,295 4-4-2 convertibles produced in the '69 model year. By the way, m '69 4-4-2 cameo white 4-4-2 convertible came with factory A/C!

My 69 cameo convertible didn’t come with A/C, but it’s also a 4sp which didn’t come with A/C.

That is not correct.
A/C was available on manual trans 442s. The only restriction was that it was only offered with the wide ratio M20 since the steepest rear axle ratio allowed with A/C was 3.23:1. Note the listing for C60 in this page from the 1969 SPECS booklet - the restriction is N/A with M21.

It all depends. For 1976 and earlier Oldsmobiles, yes, no production data by option or anything exists. Just broad production numbers by style. For 1977 and later Oldsmobiles, it is possible to get a dealer invoice for any car as long as you provide the VIN that lists much interesting information, including the options the car left the factory with, the original list price, and the dealer to whom the car was delivered. But I don't think any database anywhere for any make of car would have the kind of search functions that people often want, such as "how many 1968 442 convertibles, blue with a white top, A/C, power trunk release, and a clock were made." To put together a database with that kind of search capability would be an enormous undertaking that no manufacturer would have the need, time, nor inclination to do.

My guess is that old car clubs would catalog such information if it were available any form, but it's not. But even if it were, it wouldn't be easy. Just take one model and one year. 1978 Cutlasses, all flavors. Even if you had them all in front of you in boxes, you would be looking at almost 400,000 dealer invoices to go through one by one, adding the options for each car to whatever computer database program you were using. The man-years required for that alone would be enormous. Then do it for all Oldsmobiles that year. Then do it for all Oldsmobiles for which invoices exist, which is probably several million between 1978 and the end of production. Ain't ever gonna happen.
